Take a boat trip on the lakes of Killarney and cycle the famous 'Gap of Dunloe'
What a beautiful day out this tour really is. You can cycle to Ross Castle where you will be picked up by boat along with your bike and taken for a truly memorable trip through the world famous lakes of Killarney with O Donoghue's boat tours, a super friendly and local tour operator of the lakes of Killarney.
The boat trip affords spectacular views of the mountains and shores of the lakes of Killarney. Float under brickeen bridge and the Old weir bridge and witness the beauty of 'The meeting of the Waters' to name but a few of the many attractions that you will see on this amazing boat ride through the best of The Killarney National Park.
Once you have completed the one hour-long boat ride along with your bike on board you will be dropped to 'Lord Brandon's Cottage' in the 'Black Valley'. At this point you will begin your cycle towards the amazingly scenic 'Gap of Dunloe' where you will be blown away by the rugged lanscape of this valley created by moving sheets of ice over 10,000 years ago.
So many oppurtunites to take out your camera and get a beautiful picture of nearby cascades, roaming sheep, winding mountain roads and bridges in this stunning valley. Or put it away and just absorb as much of this unique landscape as possible.
After your hard cycle through the hills of the valley take a break at the famous 'Kate Kearney's Cottage' at the end of the gap for a hot meal or a creamy, well - desreved pint before you make the road for home.
This is usually a full day out for most people undertaking this cycle and boat ride. Boats are usually at 10:30am from Ross Caste pier. The cycle from the Black valley and back to the Rental shop ia almost 30km so be prepared with warm clothing, water and a packed lunch.
It is a challenging cycle so a reasonable level of fitness is needed for this route.
It can be windy on the lakes in the boat and in the gap itself so warm clothing is recommended.
